Fellas !"

Like playing football?, want a bit more than a kickabout in a park?, but can't commit to Sunday League Footie?

If you like the sound of our friendly but quite competitive football, are looking to find a football team in Manchester and are adult aged 16 or older, then please join us. Just come down on the evenings that suit you, with any level of fitness, a little ability and a sportsman like attitude.

£3.50 per session can improve your fitness more enjoyably than going to the gym, sharpen your football skills, .. and might even cure your hangover !!

5, 6, 7..11
a side

We pick up typically 4 or 6 teams, evenly matched, for a mini-tournament of five a side, six a side, seven aside, etc, depending on numbers turning up.

Sundays 6pm - 7:15pm

Thursdays 6pm - 7pm

We play in all weathers - only seasonal closing of the Sports Centre over Christmas to New Year or when pitch is unplayable under heavy snow normally stop us.

On the rare occasion a session has to be cancelled, it should be posted on the top of this website by 5pm on the day.

Here is the recently resurfaced astro pitch which sits pleasantly under its own floodlights within a stone's throw of local ameneties such as Didsbury Virgin Active Gym, the Parrs Wood Leisure Centre and Parrs Wood School. The pitch presents stunning views of the Mersey and Mersey fields, with herds of wildergeese, Sydney Opera House and ... oh no, that would be an exaggeration ! But the address is:
Parrs Wood Sports Centre, Parrs Wood High School, Wilmslow Road, East Didsbury, Manchester M20 5PG.

For parking you can use the Parrs Wood Leisure Centre's car park. Then walk towards the School, continue until the Sports Centre, turn right, down some steps, cross a roadway and you'll see the astro-turf below you and to your left. Limited parking is also available at end of above-mentioned roadway.

Club Rules

No sliding tackles
No violent behaviour
No abusive conduct
We keep it friendly yet competitive with:

If a player is found foul of any of these rules they'll get a "red card" and be asked to leave the pitch. If the footballer ever repeats such an offence (never has in over 10 years) they'll be asked to leave and never return. This has helped maintain a fun and enjoyable, yet competitive atmosphere for all our soccer games.

Finally, if the ball goes over the fence it is the responsibility of the last player who touched it to retrieve straight away, thank you.

Who on
earth are we ?

Turn up and play football started in May 2002 as part of the Virgin Active Gym nearby. Anyone could join and still can so we're a mixed bag of abilities, backgrounds and ages - from youths / teenagers (16+) to adult (we once had a 68 year old!). Over some 12 years our regular players have ranged from ex professional footballers (for example Stockport County's former Centre Forward), to those who only dreamt of playing for their school.

We welcome players from all over Manchester and Stockport, indeed the world - from Wythenshawe to Wales, Sale to Spain, Levenshulme to ... Liverpool !!

In addition to our normal Thursday and Sunday sessions, we sometimes have summer training / coaching in the neighbouring grass fields - watch this space for details.

In some years we have a summer tournament - with referees ! - where groups from outside can form teams and take part too, alongside our regulars. It's an opportunity to think up some great team names for starters !. Here's my 'match report' from July 2011:

"Thanks to all Players who took part in the superb Parrs Wood Football annual 6 a side tournament.

On a sunny July afternoon, 8 teams entered the tournament consisting of current regular players and 2 guest teams.

After the League stages, 4 teams made it through to the Semi Final - KDS Driving School, Didsbury Seniors, Team Romin, and Your Mum's Athletic....
The wooden spoon stages finished with some exciting matches as John Leigh Massive won on penalties against PSV Trinity for 7th place, and 6 Screamers led by Tom Faulkner took 5th place over Sonni Sensations...

Team Romin comfortably cruised into the final after beating Dare's Didsbury Seniors, whilst Winny and Mark's Your Mum's Athletic sneaked victory from the Guest Team, KDS Driving School after 12 penalties each!

The final saw some excellent football with the young quick Team Romin difficult to contain at times by the more experienced Athletic..
In the end goals by the portly Chris Mills and Andy Lysons saw Athletic gain a deserved victory and take home the impressive trophies...

Well done to all who participated and contributed towards making £100 for charity. This has been sent to the family of Rich Philpott and will be donated to a Cancer Research Charity.
